Here's a run down of some of the key functional changes in Photo Ephemeris Web 2.0. A PDF with an overview of the features available with a PRO subscription is available below.
You'll need to create an account and sign in in order to access the site. We made this change to limit the number of wasted map views from chance passers-by to the site, and also to support new features. See Using Photo Ephemeris Web, Part 0: Sign up and Sign in
Changes to Maps
Due to significantly increased costs, we are unable to offer some map types free of charge. If you use the free version of Photo Ephemeris Web, you will have access to three map types (two street map styles and a topographic style). You can select the map type at the top left of the screen.
As as PRO user, you can enable Google Maps using the controls above the center of the map. Google's map type controls are also at the top left.
In addition, PRO users can access seven additional map styles using the standard map display.
Search
The search field itself is not displayed until you click the search button above the map. This is so we can present multiple search results instead of the single 'best' result (which, let's be honest, often was far from the best result in v1.2). You can now type or paste lat/lon coordinates directly in the search field, too.
Bookmark a location
The bookmark button is no more. Instead, click Locations in the header and then the '+' button to save the current primary pin location. Find out more.
Display configuration
We've added new controls to provide more control over the displayed information. You can turn on/off the sun or moon in Settings.
Above the map, at the top left, are controls to set what is displayed. Options are:
- Map, Timeline and Altitude Chart
- Map, Timeline only
- Map, Altitude Chart only
- Map only
You can toggle through these using the 'T' shortcut key
Also, there is a full screen mode available at the top right of the map. Enable to hide the page header and footer.
